| Use advice for data set | Notice: this data set supersedes the EF3.0-compliant version (see link under "preceding data set version" below calculated with the EF3.0). The life cycle inventory is not changed from the original EF3.0 data set. The LCIA results are calculated based on the EF3.1 methods which provide updated characterisation factors in the following impact categories: Climate Change, Ecotoxicity freshwater, Photochemical Ozone Formation, Acidification, Human Toxicity non-cancer, and Human Toxicity cancer. The review report and the data quality ratings refer to the original results. The data set has been updated by the European Commission on the basis of the original EF3.0 data set delivered by the data provider. |

| General comment on data set | The dataset is generated as part of a critically reviewed LCA of titanium dioxide. The study is based on primary data supplied by members of the Titanium Dioxide Manufacturers Association. Data were provided for 32 TiO2 production sites located in 21 countries operated by eight companies representing 60% of global production in 2016. Upstream data are based on primary data from 19 ore feedstock extraction and production sites and secondary data as documented in the 2017 Addendum to Annex C of TDMA (2014) Method Document for the Provision of a Cradle to Gate Life Cycle Inventory for the Manufacture of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). The resulting data set is based on both TiO2 production routes: chloride and sulphate processes. The dataset is a weighted average of production by the various TiO2 manufacturers, based on production volumes. |
